STA Regional Education Committee (REC)
St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Secondary School (STA) is a member of the Catholic Independent Schools of the Vancouver Archdiocese (CISVA). The role of the Regional Education Committee (REC) at STA is to implement the policies and decisions of the CISVA Board of Directors.
Responsibilities
- Working together to create a positive and unified school culture that inspires success for every student.
- Develop local policies in collaboration with the principal and pastor. Local policies must not supersede provincial or federal legislation or CISVA policy.
- Participate in long-term planning, including financial and strategic, in consultation with the school pastor, principal and parents.
- Ensure the safe and orderly operation of the school in the following areas: collection of fees, payment of operating expenses, facilities, maintenance, fund raising, parent participation, and ensuring an environment conducive to learning for all our students.
- Assume other duties as assigned to the REC from time to time by CISVA.
STA’s REC Committee comprises of members from the North Shore Catholic parishes and the Archbishop’s Representative (see CISVA Policy 107-1.4). Each parish has two members on the committee. One member is elected by the parish and one member is appointed by the Pastor. If a parish has no Education Committee, both members are appointed by the Pastor. These are volunteer positions.
One member shall be elected by the parish in even numbered years and one member appointed in odd numbered years. The term of office is two years, renewable three times for a maximum cumulative total of eight years’ service inclusive of having served on one or more Regional Education Committees (Secondary Schools). The appointed member shall report to the Pastor and be the liaison to the Parish Education Committee, if there is one.
